Man detained for taking photo of marked ballot

Officials have been warning voters not to carry their smartphones or cameras into the boxes during the ongoing presidential elections, as taking photos of ballots are prohibited.

A voter who photographed his own marked ballot inside the voting cubicle has been detained in Darıca in the northwestern province of Kocaeli.

Ballot box officials in Darıca informed police after they realized that a voter had taken a photo inside the box.       

Officials have been warning voters not to carry their smartphones or cameras into the boxes during the ongoing presidential elections, as taking photos of ballots are prohibited. Still, many people have shared such photos showing who they voted for on social media websites.

The Higher Election Board (YSK) has prohibited photos at ballot boxes following claims that some people were “selling” their votes in advance and using the photos as proof to collect payment.
