Malatya Film Festival ends with ceremony

The Malatya International Film Festival, which was organized this year from Nov. 9 to 15 in the central Anatolian province of Malatya with the theme, “Middle East and Peace,” presented the Crystal Apricot Awards.

U.S. director John Sayles was presented with a Lifetime Honorary Award at the opening of the ceremony.
The Best Film award at the 3rd International Malatya Film Festival was awarded to “Tepenin Ardı” (Beyond the Hill), while the Best Script award went to director Emin Alper for the same film.

Jale Arıkan received Best Actress for “Zerre” (The Particle), with Best Original Soundtrack going to Saki Çimen and, Best Fiction going to Mesut Ulutaş for the same film.

Reis Çelik won Best Director for “Lal Gece” (The Night of Silence) and the Best Actor award went to six actors in the film “Beyond the Hill.”

The winner of the festival’s Best Director of Photography award was Ercan Yılmaz for “Ateşin Düştüğü Yer” (Where the Fire Burns).

International films

In the international categories, Pablo Larrain’s “No” won Best Film while Benh Zeitlin won Best Director for “Beasts of the Southern Wild.”
