ISTANBUL- Hürriyet Daily News
The second Malatya International Film Festival, organized in the eastern province of Malatya, will screen nearly 150 foreign and Turkish films between Nov. 18 and 24.
The festival will feature films by Wim Wenders, one of the most notable representatives of German cinema. The director, who won the Palme d’Or Award at the Cannes Film Festival in 1984 for his film “Paris, Texas,” also won the Best Director Award in 1987 at the same festival for “Wings of Desire.”
Wenders is a member of the consultancy board of the World Cinema Foundation, which aims for the protection and restoration of world films.
Under the title of “Win Wenders in the Course of Time,” his films “Wings of Desire,” Lisbon Story,” “The State of Things,” “Paris, Texas,” “Pina” and “Kings of the Road” will be shown at the Malatya International Film Festival.
Last year’s festival was very successful and got positive reactions both in the national and international arenas, said Malatya Mayor Ulvi Saran to Anatolia news agency. He said that unlike last year, this year’s event would also feature a national feature film competition.
The Lifetime Achievement Awards of this year’s festival will be presented to actress Hülya Koçyiğit and actors Ediz Hun and Cüneyt Arkın
