Main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu has summarized his review of the ongoing Ergenekon coup plot case in a 25-article text and will send it to international organizations, including the European Union and the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) after the text is translated into English, the party announced. The main characteristic of this case is the fact that it is being controlled by the government, Kılıçdaroğlu argued, while underlining that Article 90 of the Constitution was being ignored by both judges and prosecutors, the CHP said on March 21 in a written statement. Article 90 covers ratification of international treaties.
“There are 120 million Word documents in this case’s files. Which prosecutor and which judge read 120 million documents properly and made a decision? There is a need for 228 years just to read and examine them. That’s why this court is not a court that is delivering justice. They haven’t delivered justice and they will not do so,” Kılıçdaroğlu said. Earlier this week, a prosecutor in the case submitted the final opinion on 275 suspects involved in the four-year-long investigation dubbed the Ergenekon case, named after the shadowy criminal gang that he argued was a “terrorist organization.” He requested life sentences for dozens of suspects.
