A Turkish high court cancelled a fine of 300 million Turkish Liras that had been levied against South Korean LG Electronics in a 4-year-old legal case against Turkish distributor Digicom, the company said in a statement last weekend.LG Electronics stated that it had been sued in a lawsuit against Digicom with the claim that Digicom caused unfair competition by newspaper ads, while the first case was going on.
The first verdict of the case saw LG Electronics slapped with a 300 million lira fine for compensation, but it was then cancelled due to invalid reports for perpetuate testimonies, incoherence in experts’ reports and Digicom’s unfair competition, LG said in its statement.
However, Digicom’s lawyer, Münci İnci, claimed the decision was only a formality and it would receive the compensation. He said the two cases were not linked as LG had made it appear, but independent cases that have different issues and processes.
