‘Leyla and Mecnun’ at Istanbul Puppet Festival
The famous story of Leyla and Mecnun will be staged on Sunday, 13 May, at the 15th International Istanbul Puppet Festival.
The famous story of Leyla and Mecnun will be staged on Sunday, 13 May, at the 15th International Istanbul Puppet Festival. The lovers will be presented using meddah, a traditional Turkish form of expression for the theater. Meddah combines puppets and shadow play with the tradition of the storyteller who used to entrance his audience with tales of love, adventure and fantasy. Produced by Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality’s Culture, Inc., the play has been written and is being directed by Cengiz Samsun. The performance is free and starts at 6 pm. at the Players Theater in Rumeli Han on the İstiklal Avenue.
