Krampf relocates at Karaköy
ISTANBUL - Hürriyet Daily News
Dreaming big, New York art gallery owner Regis Krampf relocated to Istanbul with the hopes of establishing Turkey’s largest city as the new address for contemporary art. With the move complete, Krampf is now holding the gala for his eponymously named gallery, located in the fast-developing Tophane neighborhood, today with a sculpture exhibition from Czech artist Richard Stipl. The gallery will also participate in the Istanbul Contemporary Art Fair between Nov. 22 and 25.Krampf said his adventure in relocating to Istanbul started two years ago. “Encouraged by the successful results I had at the Contemporary Istanbul Art Fair in 2010 and 2011, I looked into a possible investment in Istanbul. The great dynamism with emerging artists, knowledgeable collectors and an art market eager to embrace new ideas helped me decide to move here to open a gallery. I located the gallery building with the help of my artist friend Barış Cihanoğlu. I believe Istanbul will be the contemporary art hub of the region in the near future.”
