Kosovo’s UN bid won’t succeed: Serbia

Serbian Foreign Minister Vuk Jeremic said that Kosovo’s move to join the U.N. during his upcoming presidency of the U.N. General Assembly would be “an act of pointless provocation.” Such a move “would have no chance whatsoever of succeeding,” Serbian news agency Tanjug quoted Jeremic as saying on July 11.“As long as Serbia presides over the U.N., and that’s for the next year, this could only happen over my dead body,” Jeremic told a news conference after a meeting with Greek Cypriot Foreign Minister Erato Kozakou-Marcoullis in Belgrade. He expressed hope the application would not be filed.
Jeremic will take over as U.N. General Assembly president in September. In reference to Russia and China, Jeremic noted that “two U.N. Security Council member countries with right of veto have a clear position on Kosovo, just like Serbia, which is that Kosovo is not a country and cannot become a member of the world organization.”
