Japanese tourists robbed by taxi drivers in Istanbul: Report
ISTANBUL
Four taxi drivers in Istanbul have been detained for robbing two Japanese tourists in Istanbul.
Daily Habertürk reported on Aug. 8 that a taxi driver forced the tourists to give their credit cards while taking them to their hotel.
The tourists applied to a police center after they got off the cab. Security forces, who scanned CCTV camera footage of the area near the hotel, identified the taxi.
Police detained all four men who drive the taxi cab in shifts throughout the day.
One of the men confessed that a driver, identified as Erkan Ç., gave him a Japanese credit card that he used to withdraw 7,500 Turkish Liras from ATMs.
Two of the drivers were arrested and sent to prison pending trial, while the other two were released.
