Israel implies it will keep pressing US on Iran issue

JERUSALEM

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has suggested that he’ll keep publicly pressing the United States to get tougher on Iran, despite the strains his remarks have caused with the Obama administration.

Netanyahu suggested he won’t abandon his calls for the U.S. to set “red lines,” telling The Jerusalem Post that he was “not exactly shy” about expressing his views on Israel’s security interests. Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman also said that Israel’s ties with the U.S. remain strong despite differences with Washington over how to deal with Iran’s nuclear program. Lieberman said discussions on the issue “should be held outside of the media” and criticized “public dialogues” on the subject.
