Iranian suspects detained in air-backed operation against animal smugglers

Some 473 cattle illegally brought to Turkey were seized in an air-backed gendarmerie operation launched in the southeastern province of Hakkari’s Şemdinli district on April 28, while four suspects of Iranian origin were detained.

After receiving an intelligence notice, units from the Şemdinli 34th Border Brigade Command started the operation against the animal smugglers in the district’s Soğuksu and Alan neighborhoods.

During the operation, the units scrutinized and besieged the cattle and four suspects, with the help of air coordinates. The cattle were eventually seized, while the four suspects were detained.

Meanwhile, 820 liters of smuggled fuel oil and six oil depots were seized in a police land search conducted in the same area.
