I was hospitalized 12 days for not wearing fur: Turkish singer ‘Diva’ Bülent Ersoy

The Turkish classical music singer ‘Diva’ Bülent Ersoy, who is known for her taste for luxurious items such as fur and jewelry, has said she was hospitalized for 12 days last year after she gave up wearing fur. 

Diva announced her renunciation of fur last year saying a video about producing fur had affected her, but later on decided to start wearing fur again after she was hospitalized. 

“I had a lung infection last year. I was hospitalized for 12 days because I did not wear fur. My body was so used to wearing fur,” she said.

She also said a lack of any formal legal ban on fur had contributed to her resolve to wear fur again.

“I will wear fur again as a protest to lawmakers who have not taken any action against wearing fur. Wearing fur should be banned. If it is not banned, I will continue to wear fur,” she said.

When she gave up wearing fur last year, Ersoy had said her personal move was not enough in the fight against fur, and that the relevant legislation must be passed.

Bülent Ersoy is one of Turkey’s most popular singers of Turkish music, known for hits such as “Geceler” (Nights) and “Beddua” (Curse).
