Hürrem’s perfumes are the best sellers
ISTANBUL
At Istanbul’s Grand Bazaar it is now possible to find small perfume bottles marked with the names of Hatice Sultan and Hürrem Sultan (Roxelana), historical figures from the 16th-century court of Suleiman the Great, who have recently been popularized anew by the Turkish TV series “Mutehşem Yuzyıl” (Magnificent Century), according to daily Radikal. It may not be possible to smell like a sultan, but your perfume can bear the name of a queen. Another Turkish tradition, the “kına gecesi” (henna night), a gathering of women that takes place before a bride’s wedding day, is also being influenced by “Muhteşem Yuzyıl,” as more women choose to dress for the event in costumes like those Hürrem Sultan wears on the show. “Hatice Sultan” perfume bottles come in three sizes, costing 5, 10 and 15 Turkish Liras.
