The principal of an American school has banned hugging in school to prevent “inconvenient situations and physical relationships” among students, daily Hürriyet reported.

School Superintendent David Heal approved the new restriction at New Jersey’s Matawan-Aberdeen Junior High School, saying the school management had a responsibility to teach students about "appropriate mutual relations."

Despite the ban, hugging students will not be suspended, Heal said.

The school has 900 students between the ages of 11 and 14.
