Holidays under review
ANKARA - Hürriyet Daily News
The President’s Office confirmed yesterday that work was under way to “review” the fashion in which national holidays are celebrated, dismissing reports that some of them would be altogether canceled. The statement said the new approach had been discussed in a meeting on Jan. 11, chaired by the president’s secretary-general, and further meetings were scheduled for Feb. 1 and March 14.
The objective is to ensure that the April 23, May 19 and Aug. 30 holidays are celebrated more by the people they are dedicated to, while Republic Day on Oct. 29 is marked “with the participation of larger masses with more comprehensive and lavish festivities.”
