Hewitt to play at Ankara Piano Festival

ANKARA
Hewitt to play at Ankara Piano Festival Canadian pianist Angela Hewitt, who is mostly known for playing Bach, will be performing at CSO Concert Hall in the Turkish capital Ankara on May 7.

The 58-year-old pianist will play for Turkish music-lovers as part of the concert series “Ankara Piano Festival.”
Apart from Bach, Hewitt also plays works by Schubert, Haydn and Beethoven.

Last year, she was promoted to the highest honor in her home country by receiving the Companion of the Order of Canada.

Istanbul music-lovers will meet with Teho Teardo and Blixa Bargeld on May 13, at Istanbul's Zorlu Performance Center. Three years after their debut album Still Smiling came out, the duo released their latest work Nerissimo in April.

“Written and sung in German, English and Italian, the songs stretch from microscopic dramas […] the surreal epic and cosmic seven-minute journey Animelle,” according to a press release from Zorlu.

Blixa Bargeld is known as the founder of Einsturzende Neubauten and his contribution with Nick Cave and the Bad.

Teho Teardo is a Rome-based musician who created several soundtracks for films by Oscar-winning directors including Paolo Sorrentino.

Also this weekend, Queen of the Desert, an American biographical drama, will hit Turkish theaters.

Written and directed by prolific German filmmaker Werner Herzog, the film centers around a British “traveler, political officer, archeologist, and spy” Gertrude Bell, “a woman who will forever change the shape of the Middle East,” at the beginning of the 20th century, according to film's official website. The film stars Nicole Kidman, James Franco and Damian Lewis.
