HDP deputy claimed to be in car carrying food to PKK

Eight people have been detained after police stopped three cars carrying food supplies to outlawed PKK militants in the northeastern province of Kars, with Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Kars deputy Şafak Özanli claimed to have been one of the people in the cars.

Officers from the police department in Kars’ Digor district stopped the three cars between the Digor and Kağızman districts on Sept. 6 after they received intelligence the cars carry food supplies to PKK militants.

The officers allegedly identified one of those in the cars as Özanli and detained eight others, who were taken to the local police department for interrogation and then to the Digor Criminal Court of Peace.

HDP Central Executive Board (MYK) member and Istanbul deputy Garo Paylan denied the claim in a Twitter posting on Sept. 7.
