Maksym Yastremskiy, 27, and 10 others were charged last year by U.S. prosecutors with having played a key role in the theft and sale of customer data from nine major U.S. retailer's computer systems, the newspaper said.

He earned more than $11 million from the theft according to prosecutors and has also been charged in another case involving data theft from a Texas restaurant chain, the Globe said.

Yastremskiy pleaded not guilty to the Turkish charges and plans to appeal his sentence, the Globe said, citing his lawyer, Ridvan Yildiz.
