The new Ordu State Theater has been inaugurated with a grand opening ceremony attended by Culture and Tourism Minister Ertuğrul Günay.Speaking at the ceremony, Günay said he was very excited to open a theater in Ordu. “The theater tradition in Ordu dates from Ottoman times. We are trying to continue this tradition by opening another one.”
Günay also said this was the 25th theater stage the government had opened since 2007.
“There was a total of 25 theater stages in 2003. Since 2007, on the Anatolian side of Istanbul we opened four and in Istanbul [in total] we opened nine theater stages. Since 2007 we opened a total of 25 theaters all over Turkey.” There were only 25 permanent theaters in Turkey in 2003, said Günay. Günay said he hoped this number would reach 60 in coming years.
“This shows that Turkish artistic and cultural life will develop in coming years,” Günay said, adding stages and curtains would always be open in Turkey.
The art of theater is not only for a certain group of people, the minister said. “It has spread to every part of Turkey.” Günay said, “I hope this new theater stage will open new dimensions in Ordu’s artistic life.”
