Some 72 percent of Greek Cypriots were against EU candidate Turkey gaining membership, while 87 percent said the government should exercise its veto if Ankara fails to meet membership obligations such as recognising Cyprus.Turkey refuses access to Cyprus-flagged ships and aircraft at its ports despite signing a custom accord with Brussels allowing entry to all member states.
Greek Cypriot Leader Demetris Christofias has already warned Turkey that it can forget about its EU ambition if Ankara does not withdraw its troops stationed on the island since 1974.
The survey also showed that the number of Greek Cypriots who believe peaceful coexistence with their Turkish Cypriot neighbours will be easy has dropped to 41 percent from 55 percent last year.
And 81 percent said they were pessimistic over the prospects of a solution to the Cyprus problem being reached sooner rather than later.
