Gallery Apel hosts clothing exhibition
Gallery Apel features a new group show titled “Clothing” between Jan. 19 and Feb. 23. The exhibition explores the transformation of clothing, from the shame of Adam and Eve to the current obsession with personal appearance. As a distinctive factor between human beings and other living creatures, clothing is used for different purposes.
Instead of used solely to protect one from physical living conditions, garments are often determined based on indications of social status, gaining prestige as well as practicing religious rituals and cultural traditions.
After all, the importance of appearance is evident in human interaction. Contributing artists include Sena Arcak, Aydan Baktır, Birsen Canbaz, Bayram Candan, Sakine Çil, Sümbül Eren, Şakir Gökçebağ, Aslımay Altay Göney and Güler Güngör.
