Fossil show removed from fair

An ongoing fossil exhibition was removed from the İzmir International Fair (IEF) because of claims that it was propaganda against evolution.

A retired professor from Aegean University, Kayhan Kantarlı, said the Mina Berksan Fossil Exhibition was displaying fake fossils at the 81th edition of the fair. He also called the exhibition propaganda against evolution.

Kantarlı said the exhibition, which had previously been displayed at Aegean University and Karşıyaka Çarşı, was removed because of reactions.

Because of the reactions at the IEF, the management of the fair organizer asked the fossil exhibition organizers for a document proving that the fossils were real. Officials said that when they could not produce a document, they decided to remove the exhibition in order not to misdirect public opinion.
