Former Bursa governor, police chief detained over Gülen links

A total of 73 people, including a former governor and police chief, were detained late on July 27 in an operation targeting what the government calls the “Fethullahist Terror Organziation (FETÖ)/Parallel State Structure (PDY)” in the northwestern province of Bursa.Police detained former Bursa Governor Şahabettin Harput along with the former Bursa Police Chief Ali Osman Kaya. The two were later transferred to the Istanbul security general directorate.
Harput, who served as Bursa governor for six-and-a-half years, was previously accused of handing over a building of the city administration to a hospital belonging to members of the Gülen movement.
A number of senior businessmen were also among those detained in the operation, which security forces are still continuing.
