Five-storey building in Istanbul tilts to one side with loud bang
ISTANBUL
A five-storey building in Istanbul suddenly tilted early June 13, alarming its residents and officials.The building in the Gaziosmanpaşa neighborhood tilted toward the street with a loud bang at 3:00 a.m., Doğan News Agency reported. A car parked outside fell into the hole caused by the incident.
No one was hurt and all residents were evacuated.
"I had warned officials that there were cracks in the building. I could not sleep and went out out to check the building. After I saw around 3:00 a.m. that the walls of the building were surging, I woke up everyone," resident Türkan Karakaya told the agency, adding that all residents were outside when the building tilted.
As officials launched an investigation into the incident, locals engaged in a heated debate with an inspector.
