Fenerbahçe, Trabzon to meet in Turkish Cup final

Adrian Mierzejewski scored a hat-trick to lift Trabzon to the Turkish Cup finals.

Fenerbahçe will meet Trabzonspor in the finals of the Turkish Cup, after eliminating an embattered Eskişehirspor 4-1 in the penalty shoot-out May 8 at Istanbul’s Şükrü Saraçoğlu stadium. The regular time ended on an even keel at 1-1, the same score as the first game played in Eskişehir last month, and the Yellow Canaries were forced into overtime.

Eskişehir opened the score thanks to veteran Chilean midfielder Rodrigo Tello in the 17th minute. The Yellow Canaries responded with Pierre Webo in the 32nd minute.

Earlier, the “Black Sea Storms” Trabzonspor has done justice to its nickname by cataclysmically destroying Sivasspor 6-0 at home to accede to the finals with 7-2 on aggregate.

Having lost 2-1 in the first game, a one-goal difference was enough for Trabzonspor but the black sea club wiped out its rivals from the field with an impressive performance from Adrian Mierzejewski.

The polish international scored a hat-trick, his first for Trabzon, and dished out one assist. Olcan Adın, Volkan Şen and Aykut Akgün also scored in the second half to complete Trabzon’s biggest victory of the season.
