Fenerbahçe to play Atromitos in Europa League

Turkish club Fenerbahçe, which was knocked out of Champions League competition by Shakthar Donetsk on Aug. 5, was drawn against Atromitos of Greece on Aug. 7 in the Europa League playoff stage.The Istanbul club will play the first leg on Aug. 20 at Atromitos, which finished fifth in the Greek league last season, with the return leg scheduled for Aug. 27 in Istanbul.
Fenerbahçe will join Beşiktaş in the Europa League group stage if it knocks out Atromitos. Two other Turkish clubs, Trabzonspor and Başakşehir, were knocked out after losing their respective games on Aug. 6.
Also on Aug. 7 in Nyon, Manchester United was given a kind draw in the Champions League playoffs, as the Premier League powerhouse was paired with Belgium’s Club Brugge.
The three-time winner, making its return to Europe’s premier club competition after a one-year hiatus, will play the first leg at its Old Trafford home.
