Ankara residents prepared their swimsuits for more pouring rain as Turkey’s capital was struck by thunder overnight on June 15 with weather more akin to a tropical climate. The city’s infrastructure, which dutifully fails the test even against a mere drizzle, braced for a terrifying punishment from nature.
Over 250 lightning bolts struck during the night according to some observers, but the nocturnal rain stopped in the morning hours to the relief of the residents.
Turkey’s capital offers surreal images whenever it rains or snows, a characteristic that is becoming one of its most popular trademarks.
