Ergenekon suspects, lawyers split
ISTANBUL - Anatolia News Agency
The Board of Court in the ongoing Ergenekon case has taken a new precaution to prevent suspects and lawyers from conducting talks during hearings by closing down the corridors between their seats in the courtroom. Before the new measurements were put into place defense lawyers could cross the corridor and meet with their clients while they passed to their seats. Following the announcement of the new courtroom layout, suspects said they had the right to see their relatives and lawyers from a distance.
Doğu Perinçek in a case on June 25, expressed that meetings between suspects and lawyers cannot be prevented and that due to the new court procedures law suspects and lawyers should sit next to each other. He said the dialogue between a suspect and their lawyer is a fundamental legal right.
