Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan is planning a visit to Iran in the coming weeks, as he resumes domestic and foreign trips following the two intestinal operations he has undergone since late November, sources from his office said yesterday.Erdoğan’s trip to Tehran, which could take place in late March or early April, comes amid expectations for the resumption of talks between Iran and the 5+1 Group of Western powers over the Islamic Republic’s nuclear program.
The premier will travel to Bochum, Germany on March 17 to receive the Der Steiger’s “Europe Prize.” On March 26-27, Erdoğan will attend the Nuclear Security Summit in South Korea. There is a “possibility” that he will fly from Seoul to Tehran, but the exact date of his trip to Iran has not been fixed yet, the sources said. In the weeks afterwards, Erdoğan is also planning visits to Azerbaijan and China, diplomats said.
Separately, Foreign Minister Davutoğlu will meet with his Iranian and Azeri counterparts on March 7 in Nakhchivan, as part of the three-way consultations inaugurated by the three countries in 2010, diplomatic sources said. k HDN
