Entry to Georgia eases

Crossings at Turkish-Georgian border posts increased over the weekend after the regulation was enacted allowing both country’s citizens to pass the border by using only their identity cards instead of passports, according to a local governor.Ardahan’s Governor Mustafa Tekmen said 100 people entered Turkey while 140 people left for Georgia Dec. 10, the first day of the application of identity card border crossing. Under a protocol signed between Turkey and Georgia on May 31, 2011, Turkish and Georgian citizens do not need to use passports while passing the border as of Dec. 10.
