Two elephants in Russia were made drink 10 liters vodka by their owners in order to protect the animals from the freezing cold after a truck carrying them was destroyed by fire, Anatolian news agency has reported.
The elephants’ health is now in good condition, but their earlobes were frostbitten due to cold weather, a veterinarian reportedly said after examining the animals.
The vodka protected the elephants from cold and prevented them from catching pneumonia, the head of Novosibirsk Zoo said.
The vodka failed to either injure the animals or get them drunk, an official also said.
