Elazığspor beat Bucaspor 2-1 yesterday to complete its return to Turkish top-flight football.League One leader Elazığspor is guaranteed to be promoted to Spor Toto Super League with the win.
Elazığspor is now at 61 points with one week to go still.
Second Akhisar has 60 points and third-place Çaykur Rizespor has 59 points, but the two teams will play a crucial match against each other, meaning just one of them will be able to be placed in the top two spots.
The top two League One teams win direct promotion to the Spor Toto Super League, and teams in the third to sixth places will participate to a playoff round to determine the last team to advance to the top-flight.
Previously, Elazığspor played two years in the Super League from 2002 to 2004.
Elazığspor’s promotion also means the return of coach Bülent Uygun to the top-flight.
Uygun, one of the most controversial figures in Turkish football, is among the 93 suspects in the ongoing match-fixing case.
Uygun was jailed pending charges for five months last year for his alleged involvement in the manipulation of a Super League game when he was the Eskişehirspor coach.
The 40-year-old’s best performance came at Sivasspor, when he led the modest Central Anatolian side to the runner-up spot in the 2008-2009 season.
