The gunfight that took place in the western Turkish province of Edirne, which claimed the life of a policeman, was probably an extension of clashes between Russian, Georgian and Azeri mafias, Governor Dursun Ali Şahin has said.Police officer Hüseyin İmrağ, 33, was shot dead when he intervened during the clashes on June 9. “As far as the information I have received, the incident is the spread of the payoff between the Russian, Georgian and Azeri mafias to Edirne,” Şahin said.
İmrağ, who was shot in the chest, was laid to rest on June 10 after a ceremony held at the governor’s building.
Hüsne İmrağ, the policemen’s pregnant wife, was also present at the funeral.
