Doğan Holding Vice Chairwoman and Doğan Online founding Chairwoman Hanzade Doğan Boyner has been appointed to the board of trustees of the Washington, D.C.-based think tank Brookings Institute, making her the first-ever Turkish citizen to be appointed to the board. Boyner has been appointed for a three-year term to the Board of Trustees, which meets three times per year, and is viewed as the institution’s most senior body. The board is comprised of global business representatives, known academics, former members of global governments and public opinion leaders.Turkey’s viewpoint
“Turkey, which aims to be one of the world’s top 10 economies and to play an important role in world politics, has shown the world how far it has come with this important appointment at Brookings. Very few countries outside of the U.S. have ever been invited to the board; I think it is critical that Turkey has been invited. It is very important for us to convey Turkey’s viewpoint at these sorts of institutions,” said Boyner.
The Brookings Institute works with over 300 academics and experts to do research in global economics, international politics, global development, urbanization and management. Brookings, which was established in 1916, also has centers in Doha, Qatar and Beijing, China. The institute has assets worth more than $400 million.
