Digiturk expands in Azerbaijan market

Turkish digital pay-TV operator Digiturk is set to expand into Azerbaijan through a distribution partnership deal it has inked with an Azerbaijani businessman.

The broadcaster, which is currently controlled by Turkey’s state fund, is collaborating with Azerbaijani businessman Mevlüt İşsever in order to enable improved Azeri viewers’ access to Turkish Super League games, as well as a number of other channels.

The number of Digiturk distribution points will rise from six to 10, and a series of new offers will be introduced to subscribers as part of the deal.

Digiturk’s target is to expand into the entire Azerbaijani market and raise its household penetration by 100 percent within the next year, Digiturk Marketing Department International Operations Group Director Murat Yurttaş said during a launch ceremony for the deal last week.

Digiturk is one and most valuable of the 12 Çukurova group companies seized by the Savings Deposit and Insurance Fund (TMSF) in May. The TMSF is currently working with Çukurova to sell the group’s 53 percent stakes in the company and has already drawn substantial interest from local and foreign investors.
