Turkey’s digital transformation roadmap is in its final stage and will be unveiled in the coming days, Science, Industry and Technology Minister Faruk Özlü said on March 8.
“We cannot leave behind our efforts for production and industrialization due to security problems in our region,” Özlü said in a speech at the Mediterranean Economic Forum in the southern province of Mersin.
He noted that technology is the “biggest power of the current era” and must be at the center of the government’s policies.
“Countries that equip their schools, factories, cities and armies with technology become powerful and continue to be strong,” Özlü said, adding that Turkey is currently ranked fourth among 21 countries in the region based on gross domestic product.
Noting that the women’s labor force participation rate in Turkey is around 30 percent, compared to around 60 percent in the EU, Özlü said increasing women’s employment rate should be adopted as both a social and an economic development goal for the country.
“Our ministry considers women’s entrepreneurship not only as an economic activity but also as a social responsibility,” he said.
Özlü claimed that the government therefore puts social gender equality in all its plans and programs in order to achieve Turkey’s development targets.
