Detention warrants out for 23 Hacettepe University staff over Gülen links

The Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office on Dec. 28 issued detention warrants for a total of 23 staff from Ankara’s Hacettepe University over their alleged links to the Fethullahist Terrorist Organization (FETÖ), accused of being behind last year’s failed coup, state-run Anadolu Agency has reported.

The personnel, four of whom currently work at the university, were issued warrants as a part of investigations into the alleged use of ByLock, an encrypted messaging application associated with Gülenist suspects.

Police launched the detention process for the university staff early in the morning, detaining seven suspects in operations targeting addresses in the eastern province of Malatya, the Black Sea province of Ordu, the Central Anatolian provinces of Konya and Aksaray and the northwestern provinces of Tekirdağ and Bursa.
