Detention warrants issued for suspended judges and prosecutors
ANKARA
Detention warrants were issued for nearly 650 judges and prosecutors who were suspended temporarily by the Second Office of the Supreme Board of Judges and Prosecutors (HSYK) on Aug. 10, as a part of the investigation into the Fethullahist Terrorist Organization/Parallel State Structure (FETÖ/PDY), believed to be behind the July 15 failed coup attempt.Investigations had been launched into the judges and prosecutors over their suspected links to U.S.-based Islamic preacher Fethullah Gülen.
The aforementioned personnel will be interrogated over being “members of an armed terrorist organization.”
Turkey has handed out thousands of suspensions since the failed takeover, while scores of people have been detained or arrested over their links to the coup plotters.
The total number of suspended judges and prosecutors from the judicial bodies since the failed coup attempt has reached 3,489.
