Denmark has voiced support for Turkey’s “counter-terrorism efforts” and its people’s role in suppressing the deadly July 15 failed coup.“I was impressed by the stance of the Turkish people against the coup attempt. They really took a strong stance. They protected their democracy, parliament and government,” Danish Foreign Minister Kristian Jensen said in a press conference with his Turkish counterpart, Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu, in Ankara on Sept. 29.
Jensen also expressed support for Turkey’s fight against any kind of terrorism, adding that Denmark would also “continue to combat all terror groups wherever or whoever they are.”
A total of 241 people were killed and nearly 2,200 others were injured during the failed coup attempt, believed to have been masterminded by the followers of U.S.-based Islamic preacher Fethullah Gülen.
Turkey declared a three-month-long state of emergency after the failed seizure of government.
