Police clashed with cafe and restaurants owners who resisted the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality’s order to demolish their business facilities in the Avcılar district today. Some 26 bars, cafes and restaurants were set to be demolished for “invading state land” in the Denizköşkler neighborhood of Avcılar’s coastline early this morning but the owners started a fire and then threw stones and bottles at security forces.
Police used pressurized water to dispel the crowd and the demolition was completed after the clash between police and business owners ended.
