Death toll rises to 36 in Ankara attack

The death toll in a car bomb attack that targeted the Turkish capital Ankara on March 13 has risen to 36 when an injured person succumbed to his injuries at a hospital on March 21, the Health Ministry has announced.

“Feyyaz Aydın, 36, who was wounded in Ankara blast and had shrapnel wounds in different parts of his body and had two legs amputated, died at the Ankara Education and Research Hospital,” the ministry said in a statement.

More than 100 were also wounded in the third attack to target Ankara in just five months.

The Kurdistan Freedom Hawks (TAK), a terror group linked to the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), claimed responsibility for the suicide bomb attack in the central Kızılay square, according to a statement on its website on March 17.

The suicide bomber was identified as Seher Çağla Demir, who was a PKK member born in 1992, according to the Interior Ministry. She received training with the People’s Protection Units (YPG), the military wing of Syria’s Democratic Union Party (PYD), after crossing into Syria.
