Coup attempt foiled in Sudan

Thirteen Sudanese including military and state intelligence officers and the former intelligence chief have been arrested over a “plot” targeting national stability, Sudan’s information minister said yesterday.“The most prominent is retired Gen. Salah Gosh,” longtime chief of the national intelligence service until 2009, said the minister, Ahmed Bilal Osman. Also held is Gen. Adil Al-Tayeb, of the National Intelligence and Security Service, and Brigadier Mohammed Ibrahim of the Sudanese Armed Forces, Osman said. He said those arrested are under investigation in connection with the plot which was initially planned for Nov. 15 but was delayed until yesterday.
“The authorities decided to stop them before they implemented it,” Osman said.
