Convict sets self afire in Istanbul prison
ISTANBUL
A convict who was serving his sentence at the Silivri prison in Istanbul set himself afire on Nov. 29, Doğan News Agency has reported.A number of firefighters and police units were immediately dispatched to the prison in the afternoon hours upon a fire warning.
The convict identified as Burak Eroğlu broke out a fire, the Bakırköy Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office later announced.
Eroğlu had been sentenced to nine years in jail on charges of robbery, the prosecutor’s office said in a statement.
It also added that Eroğlu’s treatment was ongoing in hospital.
