Consumer morale continues to improve
ANKARA
Consumer sentiment improved for a second month in a row in October, after deteriorating between June and August, a survey conducted jointly by the Turkish Statistics Institute (TÜİK) and the Central Bank has shown.
The consumer confidence index, which rose 5.1 percent month-on-month in September, advanced 4.4 percent to 74.6 in October, TÜİK said on Oct. 23.
Any index value above 100 indicates optimism among consumers.
The sub-index measuring households’ assessment of their current financial situation soared 6.1 percent in October after remaining almost unchanged in the previous month.
The month-on-month increase in the index of consumers’ expectations regarding their financial situation in the next 12 months eased from 8.1 percent to 5.4 percent.
The index of expectations regarding the general economic situation, which was up 7.8 percent in September, rose by 7.2 percent in October.
Consumers expect the number of unemployed people to increase in the next 12 months, the survey also showed.
The index of the probability of buying a car increased 5.9 percent after plunging 6.1 percent in the previous month.
Consumers appeared to be less likely, compared to September, to buy a house in the next 12 months.
