Consumer confidence index falls by 1.6 pct

The consumer confidence index in Turkey fell by 1.6 percent in June compared to the previous month as it declined to 76.2, according to official data.
The consumer confidence index decreased by 1.6 percent in June compared to the previous month. While the index was 77.5 in May, it declined to 76.2 in June, according to the results of the consumer tendency survey, which was made in cooperation with the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) and the Turkey’s Central Bank.The index of probability of saving for the next 12 months increased by 4.6 percent compared to the previous month and rose from 25.3 in May to 26.4 in June. “This increase shows that the possibility of saving of consumers’ in the next 12 months period was increased compared to the previous month,” TÜİK said yesterday.
Meanwhile, the index of the general economic situation expectation for the next 12 months, which was 104.7 in May, decreased by 2.6 percent compared to the previous month, becoming 102 in June. “This decrease shows the number of consumers who expect a better general economic situation in the next 12 months decreased, compared to the previous month,” TÜİK said. The index of the financial situation expectation of households for the next 12-month period also decreased by 2.1 percent compared to the previous month, and became 92.4 in June.
And the index of expectation for the number of unemployed people in the next 12 months decreased by 1.6 percent compared to the previous month, and dropped to 84.1 in June.
“This drop stemmed from the increase in the ratio of people expecting an increase in the number of unemployed persons,” TÜİK said.
