Confidence in sectors drops

Confidence in the Turkish service sector has increased throughout May, but the construction and retail trade sectors’ confidence indexes have displayed a downturn.

According to Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) data released on May 27, the services confidence index surged by 1.6 percent in May thanks to demand-turnover over the past three months.
 
However, the construction confidence index decreased for the second month in a row after displaying an impressive rise of 11 percent in March. The sector’s confidence index came in 1.2 percent lower than in the previous month. In addition, business activity in the retail trade sector also fell, albeit by just 0.1 percent.
