Child dies after being hit by police vehicle in Turkey’s southeast

A 5-year-old child has died after being struck by an armored police vehicle as he was playing on a street in the Cizre district of the southeastern province of Şırnak.Hakan Sarak was playing on the street when the armored police vehicle hit him, heavily wounding him.
He was taken to Cizre State Hospital by his relatives, but doctors decided that he should be sent to the southeastern province of Batman after initial treatment.
Sarak succumbed to his wounds in the ambulance while en route to Batman.
An investigation was launched into the incident, while Sarak’s body has been sent to Cizre State Hospital for an autopsy.
Armored personnel carriers are a common sight on the roads in Cizre, which is still subject to a night-time curfew following battles between the Turkish state and sympathizers of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) that started last year.
