Capacity utilization falls to 64.7 pct

The decline in capacity utilization was 16.4 percent compared to the same month a year earlier. Capacity utilization stood at 81.1 percent in 2007.

TÜİK said a shortage in demand was the main reason for the drop in capacity utilization. Other reasons included the shortage of raw materials, financial problems, labor issues and the shortage of energy. There was a 45.7 percent decline in domestic market demand during the period, according to TÜİK.

Production quantity decreased 12.2 percent in December compared to November’s figures. The decline is not expected to prolong. TÜİK said it foresaw production quantity would increase by 1.7 percent this month.
