Büyükanıt to seek legal means
ANKARA - Anatolia News Agency
Lawyer of former Chief of General Staff Yaşar Büyükanıt, Levent Koçer, said some media outlets published certain articles that had no bases in truth directed against Büyükanıt and his family and they will seek legal means regarding them.“Necessary legal means will be searched regarding these publications that not only tried to prove some documents that have no base in truth as real but also tried to wipe off moral values attributed to [Büyükanıt’s] family members.
“We also want to bring it to the public eye’s how much these publications, which are attacks on personal rights and values, are related and should be evaluated with the media ethics,” he said.
A cable dated Nov. 24, 2008, revealed claims by police to have obtained “photos and documents relating to the sexual activities” of Büyükanıt’s daughter.
Aydınlık newspaper claimed those documents were used as a blackmail tool against Büyükanıt during his spell as the chief of General Staff.
According to cables, Turkish police briefed the U.S. Embassy in Ankara on the Ergenekon investigation at least on two occasions in an apparent bid to enlist Washington’s support for the controversial probe.
