British composer to take Akbank Art stage June 14
Akbank Art is hosting Mark Lockheart, one of the most distinctive and creative musicians on the current British music scene, on June 14 at 8 p.m.
As a saxophonist and composer, Lockheart’s work often defies categorization and crosses the boundaries of jazz, new music and folk worlds. He came to prominence in the mid 1980s with the influential and radical big band Loose Tubes and after the demise of the band in 1990 formed a new quartet Perfect Houseplants. This period also saw Lockheart collaborating with Irish pianist and composer Micheal O’Suilleabhain, and recording a world/jazz album entitled Matheran (Isis, 1993) with guitarist John Parricelli. Concert tickets are at Biletix booths.
